Cat Murdered Because Owner Was a “Liberal”

WARNING: This is kind of graphic. Viewer Discretion is advised.

This is both disgusting and appalling. Whoever decided it was a good idea to bash an innocent cat’s head in to make a misguided political statement is a real piece of shit. As a cat owner, I can’t imagine this happening to one of my own…I’d be devastated and seeking vengeance. I treat my cats as if they were members of my family, because they are. Murdering my cat would be like murdering my child, and that never ends well. What do you expect from an Arkansas inbred with an IQ half their age? I wish they would find this person and make them suffer…a lot. I support torture in this case. I volunteer to take a couple swings with a baseball bat.

This savage act was directed at Jacob Burris, a campaign manager for democrat Ken Aden. Aden is a running against the incumbent Steve Womack in the heavily republican 3rd Congressional District of Arkansas. Burris discovered the cat upon arriving home with his four children on Sunday evening. The cat was purposely placed on the doorstep in plain view with the word “liberal” written in black marker across the dead body. The victim, a mixed-breed Siamese, was so badly beaten to “the point the cat’s eyeball was barely hanging from its socket,” a press release from the Aden campaign stated. This is fucking sick. Have we really stooped so low as to murder pets? Did the person responsible really think this would accomplish anything other than a sick sense of satisfaction?

“The thought of brutalizing any animal for the sake of making a political statement is beyond any standard of decency and the person or people responsible for this act should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Beau Walker, Womack’s chief of staff. I think this is an understatement. People who do these kinds of things to any creature on Earth do not deserve to live. This has gone beyond simple animal abuse and crept into the realm of a hate crime. Imagine if this had been a black family, and instead of “liberal,” the word written was “nigger”. Instead of a black family, what if the owner was gay and the word written was “faggot.” This event would get tremendous press and publicity, and the cat would be turned into a martyr for a greater cause. I would have been equally pissed off from either of these, because I think intolerance is ugly. Hating someone for an arbitrary and derogatory label is ignorance at its finest. Instead, this event will most likely be swept under the rug and the cat will become another forgotten casualty of politics in a few days. It’s sad, really. People will roll their eyes in Arkansas, make a “No-Bama” joke, and carry on with their God loving day. This day will probably include cleaning their guns, and having sex with a first cousin. Not that any of that really matters at this point. The point is the cat is dead and some twisted individual got away with torturing a family pet. I can already hear it now…pundits like Mr. Limbaugh and friends will be screaming at the top of their lungs, “IT’S JUST A CAT!” Sure, it’s just a cat.  But it’s also the underlying theme of the Republican party; violence. With all the gun talk and violent rhetoric, I’m really surprised stuff like this doesn’t happen more often. The Arkansas conservative mindset: When you can’t beat ‘em, kill ‘em. My heart goes out to you, kitty…rest in peace.

I understand your adoration for cats but it’s important to remember that this heinous act was committed by one person, or a small group of people; not the entire state of Arkansas. They may have more then their fair share of gun-cleaning, incest-enjoying kill-obsessed conservatives- but it is unfair to portray an entire area one way.

I also disagree that this act, as terrible as it is, warrants retaliation through torture. Torture is never the answer. The law is. I hope those responsible are caught and as Beau Walker said, “held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Well, I would agree with you but then we’d both be wrong ;)

It is unfair to portray a whole state in a certain way…I’m sure there are more good people than bad.

An eye for an eye! A tooth for a tooth! If you torture one of god’s creatures you should be tortured too! It says so there in that Bible book. In all seriousness, I think the torture was more tounge in cheek, but I understand the anger. Sometimes I think the laws are kind of lax when it comes to animal abuse, and the resources aren’t there to prosecute it like it needs. Today I heard from a Fox news-er about a national animal abuse registry being proposed by congress or something?  That seems like a great idea to me.  I support that.
